The National Rotax Max season will come to a close this weekend and the Birelart South Africa Official team are looking to end the year on a high note.
Teams will face four heats (instead of the usual three) in the finale to be held at Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday 21 September 2019.
Tshepang Shisinwana and Mattao Mason have become quite a formidable force in Bambinos and both young drivers will be aiming for podium finishes. In terms of the championship, Tshepang is in second place, 16 points behind the leader. It is not impossible for a championship upset, but it will be quite a challenge.
Mattao has shot up to 15th in the championship, despite having only competed in half of the season.
Dhivyen Naidoo has all but clinched the KZN Regional Micro Max Championship and has his sights set on a top three finish in the SA championship. He is in third place, 12 points behind first and only 0.16 of a point behind the driver in second.
Matthew Morrell is lying comfortably in second place in the Mini Max Championship. His focus this weekend will be on maintaining this position and claiming a few race podiums.
Shrien Naidoo had a difficult start to the Senior Max National season, but quickly made up ground with four wins from six races. He is second in the championship with a 20 point deficit.
Connor Donovan is fifth in the Senior Max Championship and a good result could easily see him move up into a podium position. There are just 15 points separating second and fifth.
Dominic Lincoln’s consistency has paid off and the KZN driver finds himself in fourth place in the championship. Whilst he will be happy to hold onto this position in his debut DD2 season, he will still be going all out to close the 14 point gap to third.
Bradley Liebenberg took on a different role within the team this year, focusing on mentoring his teammates and assisting in kart development. Despite missing two regional rounds and having two disastrous National events, Brad is still 9th in the DD2 point’s table.
